The N0MES CDT (EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Net Zero for Maritime Energy Solutions) was delighted to host University of Liverpool alumnus, Len Threadgold, and his wife, Margaret, at the end of April.
Len very generously donated money towards a studentship at the CDT, which will enable one of the PhD students to develop research using satellite monitoring techniques to assess coastal infrastructure and embankment behaviour and hence prevent failures. The project will be supervised by Dr Paul Shepley, Dr Eda Majtan and Professor Nicoletta Leonardi from the University of Liverpool.
Len spoke to the CDT about his career to date and his passions within the civil engineering field, including highlighting his favourite works to date. Len encouraged the postgraduate researchers to use the ‘power of engineering to solve problems, whilst using technology as a tool,’ noting that if you have the ‘right principles, and the right process, then the sky is your limit.’
Two of the CDT students, Stevie Howe and Kai Simpson, presented an overview of their research to date following Len’s talk, giving him an overview of the types of projects being undertaken.
